CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED
A process Windows cannot run without stopped unexpectedly. Damaged system files, a bad driver or a failing drive are the usual causes.
How to fix it
- If Windows starts, run the repair commands:
- Open Command Prompt as administrator (search "cmd", right-click, Run as administrator).
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthand wait for it to finish (it can sit at 20% for a while). - Then run:
sfc /scannow - Restart the PC.
- If it does not start, open Advanced startup (it appears after two failed boots) > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair, or System Restore.
- Check the drive health: in Command Prompt run
wmic diskdrive get status, or use the drive maker's tool. - If it started after a new driver or update, uninstall it from Safe Mode.
Is it serious?
Often fixable. If the drive is failing, back up now and replace it.
